giant coconut crab

Largest terrestrial invertebrate in the world.   The coconut crab, not so easy to catch.  Claws will cut off fingers.  Live for something like fifty years.  Saloman Atoll (Chagos) was covered with them.  They are an endangered species as locals islanders eat them faster than they can reproduce.  As Chagos has no more locals, the crabs do well.  They own the island.
